After 3 breakaways caused by Llanthony and The Lover, the field finally got away with Certosa urged on to make the early running. The pace was moderate for the first half mile, Orme shot to the front up the hill, only to be closed on by Llanthony at the rifle butts. From two out it was obvious that La Fleche was travelling easily and shot clear at the distance to win by 2 lengths in 3 minutes 14.6 seconds, with a further 3 lengths between Sir Hugo and Watercress. As a 2 year old La Fleche won the Chesterfield Stakes at Newmarket and the Molecomb at Goodwood. She carried off the 1000 Guineas and was second behind Sir Hugo in the Derby before claiming her second Classic victory, Later in her career she won the Liverpool Autumn Cup and the Ascot Gold Cup.
